BJP will win whenever Gujarat poll is held: Advani

Apparently upset over the Election Commission's decision not to hold assembly poll in Gujarat for the time being, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Saturday said the Bharatiya Janata Party will win hands down whenever election is held in the state.

"I know Gujarat. I am from Gujarat. They (EC) may hold the election whenever they like, but we will win hands down," Advani said to thunderous applause and aggressive slogan shouting from party cadres.

He was addressing a daylong political conference of the Delhi unit of the party.

Taking exception to opposition's constant attack on Modi, he said the Gujarat chief minister was rated the second most popular chief minister in the country in a survey.

"He (Modi) is an elected chief minister, the second most popular person in the country. India's stature does not grow by attacking him," Advani said.

The Election Commission had on Thursday unanimously decided to frame a schedule for the assembly election in November-December, an indication that it could be held by year-end.
