Four militants killed in Kashmir

Four militants, including three suspected foreign mercenaries belonging to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit, were killed and four others injured in separate incidents, while two ultras were arrested in the Kashmir valley since Thursday night, official sources said.

Three LeT militants were shot dead by the Border Security Force personnel in an encounter at Reshiwari village in Mowgam sector of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Friday, a BSF spokesman said.

He said the troops confronted a group of militants, believed to have sneaked into the valley from across the border a few days back, in the village and asked them to surrender. The militants opened fire and in the ensuing gunfight three militants were killed and two houses were damaged, the spokesman said.

Three AK assault rifles, four magazines and 47 rounds were recovered from the slain militants. An unidentified militant was killed during a joint operation by army and special operations group of local police at maidan-e-tral in Sogam area of Kupwara district on Thursday night, he said.

Two security personnel were also injured during the encounter. An AK rifle, two magazines and 43 rounds were recovered from the slain militant, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said militants shot at and injured a student at Goriwan in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district Thursday evening, adding a woman was injured in a mine blast near LoC in Uri sector of Baramulla district on Thursday night.

The police arrested two militants from Pattan area of Baramulla district and recovered two grenades from them, he added.
