The top brass of the state police had no official intimation about the presence of Sharma in Himachal and the Delhi police had not so far contacted the local police, which was mandatory under law, a senior police official said in Shimla.
The 'imaginary search' for Sharma in Himachal during the past 24 hours is giving sleepless nights to the senior police officers as they are receiving frequent telephone calls from the media.
The official said that he received 55 calls on Wednesday night from mediapersons asking about the whereabouts or arrest of Sharma. "There is no question of conducting raids when there is no definite clue," he said.
A police official from Una district said the media may have mistaken the raids conducted in connection with a murder case for those to track down Sharma.
Another senior official felt that the disclosure that Sharma was traced in Himachal could be a calculated move to pre-empt any attempt by him to go to the state.
The possibility of Sharma hiding in Solan or Una was based on the presumption that he had some relatives and friends in these places, he said.
