TDP politburo asks Naidu to decide on stand

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The TDP politburo has authorised party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to take an "appropriate decision" on the party's stand on the censure motion in the Lok Sabha on the Gujarat issue.

"The politburo has authorised me to take a decision on the issue," Naidu said after a meeting of the politburo on Tuesday night.

"Our party has made four demands: Seeking replacement of Gujarat chief minister [Narendra Modi], immediate restoration of peace and normalcy in that state, rehabilitation of the riot victims and not holding of assembly elections there at the present juncture," he said.

The TDP leader said that the party was waiting for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's reply to the debate and the four demands.

"After the prime minister's reply, Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader [K Yerran Naidu] will apprise me and I will communicate the party's decision to him," he added.
