"The central government sees nothing wrong in a chief minister whose law and order administration is so infected by the politics of communalism that it victimises officials who take a courageous stand against communal violence," Gandhi said in her inaugural speech at the third conference of Congress chief ministers in Guwahati, Assam.
"The Congress Working Committee is unequivocal in demanding the resignation of the chief minister who has singularly failed in discharging his constitutional obligations and responsibilities," she said.
She alleged that the Centre "condones a situation where Indians are targeted on the basis of their faith. How can it be said that these atrocities were perpetrated by people of one religion or the other? The perpetrators have violated all tenets of all religions".
Gandhi emphasised that the Congress was committed to see that all citizens of the country are entitled to "equal protection of law irrespective of the community they belong to".
