One killed in police firing in
Umreth, violence continues

One person was killed and four others injured in police firing in Umreth town of Anand district on Tuesday night even as violence continued unabated in several parts of Gujarat, police said.

A large number of houses and shops were set on fire in Umreth by mobs forcing imposition of curfew in the town.

At least nine persons were injured in Tuesday night's violence in Gomtipur, Kalupur, Dariapur, Saraspur, Saranpur and Astodia areas of Ahmedabad.

Four persons were injured in police firing on a mob in Kalupur area, where some houses were set ablaze.

Indefinite curfew was imposed in Ankleshwar industrial town of Bharuch district from 2.30 am on Wednesday following incidents of arson and looting, police added.

Reports from Kheda district said some shops were set on fire in Nadiad town on Tuesday night forcing authorities to impose curfew in the town.
