Mob attacks houses in Ahmedabad;
army called out

Army was called out on Monday night in Khanpur locality of Ahmedabad after a mob tried to attack some houses.

Police opened fire and burst several teargas shells to disperse the mob, sources said.

There were no immediate reports of any casualty, they said.

Meanwhile, Governor S S Bhandari on Monday visited two relief camps in the city.

He went to Kankaria and Shah-e-Alam camps and spoke to the victims of the communal violence. The governor listened to their problems and issued necessary instructions to officials, an official release said.

He enquired about the availability of essential commodities at the camps, it said, adding that many people expressed a desire to return to their homes.

Some women had given birth in the camps and antenatal and postnatal care needed to be strengthened. Sufficient medicines were available, the release added.

Bhandari is heading the 13-member all-party committee to monitor the working of over 100 relief camps in the state.

On Sunday, he held the first meeting of the committee at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, which was also attended by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
