Ruckus in Lok Sabha over Fernandes' reinduction

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The opposition objection to the reinduction of Defence Minister George Fernendes surfaced in the Lok Sabha during the question hour again on Thursday with the Congress member Sashi Bhai Makwana refusing to direct a question at him.

When Makwana's turn came to ask the question relating to the straying of Indian fishermen into Pakistani waters, he stood up and said, "I do not want to ask any question to George Fernandes. In his whole life, he has been speaking about morality but he is silent on his unethical reinduction into the government."

The house plunged into pandemonium, when speaker G M C Balyogi asked him to put the question.

However, Congress members Kamal Nath and Mani Shankar Aiyar told the speaker that he could not force Makwana to put the question.

Thereafter, speaker Balyogi informed the house that Makwana's question had been withdrawn.
