Missing Madan Mohan idol recovered from temple well

The idol of Madan Mohan, which was missing from Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, was recovered from a well in the temple complex on Monday, official sources said.

However, another idol of Narayani, also missing since Sunday, is yet to be traced.

The two-feet high ashtadhatu idol of Madan Mohan, regarded as a representative of Lord Jagannath, was sighted in a well inside Nilachal Upabana in the 12th century temple complex, the sources said.

Meanwhile, police detained an Australian citizen for interrogation in connection with the theft of the idols.

The Australian, identified as Hasin Huggland, 22, was taken into custody after it was ascertained that he had been moving near the temple in a suspicious manner on Saturday night when the thefts took place, police said.

Huggland had come to India as a tourist and was staying in the Baliapanda area of the city.
