HSC results in Orissa

Two girls committed suicide in Orissa after failure in the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination.

Police sources said that both suicides, in the last 48 hours, were after consuming poison.

In Balasore district, 15-year-old Bharati Majhi consumed poison after the HSC exam results were announced on Tuesday. She died in hospital. A case of unnatural death has been filed at the Sadar police station.

In Jayepore district, a 14-year-old girl end her life in the same manner.

"They committed suicide as they were unable to bear their failure," said Janki Mishra, a teacher of the Oriya high school.

In Bhubaneswar, a case of attempted suicide by a girl was reported following failure in exams.

Unlike the ICSE and CBSE results, the pass percentage of HSC candidates was only 38.38 per cent this year.
