JKDFP to discuss Pant's clarifications

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Shabir Shah, chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, is likely to meet central interlocutor K C Pant soon but the venue remains to be decided.

Pant wants Shah to come to Delhi. However, Shah told mediapersons at the JKDFP headquarters in Srinagar, "Pant should come to Srinagar."

Meanwhile, Pant's emissary Naresh Kumar Jain handed over detailed replies to queries raised by Shah in his last letter to Pant. He, however, refused to divulge the contents to newsmen.

"Pant has invited Shah to Delhi for talks. The dates are yet to be decided," Jain told newsmen after a brief meeting with the JKDFP chief.

Jain also said that Pant may visit Srinagar but the dates are yet to be decided.

Shah on the other hand said that he will meet Pant in Srinagar. The DFP chief said that the apex body of his party will meet in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the contents of Pant's reply.

"The apex body will decide whether or not to hold talks with Pant," Shah said.

Authorities have made tight security arrangements around the JKDFP headquarters at Rajbagh in uptown Srinagar. Senior police officers were supervising the security after two grenade attacks recently on the office complex.
