Top Anantnag official escapes militant attack

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Anantnag Deputy Commissioner G A Peer had a miraculous escape when militants detonated a huge improvised explosive device near the town in south Kashmir.

Peer, who had gone to visit Village Manigam in Anantnag district, was on his way back to the headquarters when the blast occurred.

He told rediff.com on telephone that as his heavily guarded motorcade was nearing Anantnag town, there was a massive explosion on the road. "We had a miraculous escape," he said.

The windscreen of Peer's bulletproof vehicle was damaged, but no one was injured.
