320 kg of precious
stones seized in Orissa

Police seized 320 kg of precious stones, including garnets, rubies and yellow saphire, valued at about Rs 2 crore from the parcel counter of Jaipur-Keonjhar road railway station in Bhubaneshwar.

The police raided the counter and seized the stones, packed in nine bags as mosaic chips and booked for Delhi on Tuesday, following a tip-off, railway sources said.

The stones were booked by Badal Sahu, to be sent to New Delhi on the Puri-Nizammuddin Kalinga-Utkal Express, they said.

A chemical analysis of the material by the deputy director mines (lab), Jaipur road, confirmed that they were precious stones, suspected to be procured from western Orissa.

The accused are absconding, police said.
