Nine militants killed at Poonch

Nine militants were killed by troops and the Jammu and Kashmir police in a joint operation in Poonch district in Jammu on Tuesday night.

Official sources said militants fired at the joint patrol party of the Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir police at Menehar. The security forces returned fire, killing nine militants.

On information about the presence of 26 militants in Loran-Mandi, the joint team cordoned off the militant hideout on Tuesday evening, they said.

The militants fired at the security forces and a special police officer was injured.

The ultras, who belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen, Teherek-ul-Mujahideen and Al-Jehad, were planning to attack a nearby army post, they said.

A huge quantity of arms and explosives was recovered in Jammu division, the sources said.
