A decision will be taken after holding talks with the Telugu Desam Party, a crucial ally, the sources said after the meeting.
The meeting approved a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the corruption charges levelled by a portal, Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister S S Dhindsa said.
The prime minister will request Chief Justice of India A S Anand to appoint a judge to conduct the inquiry, he said.
The NDA decided not to hold any talks with the Trinamul Congress and requested Samata Party leader George Fernandes to convince his party members, who have resigned from their ministerial posts, not to insist on their resignations, Dhindsa said.
The meeting also ruled out the resignations of any official from the Prime Minister's Office, he added.
Later, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said the inquiry would be completed within five to six months.
"If Fernandes is cleared, he will be reinstated," Mahajan said.
He said the NDA expressed full faith in Fernandes who would continue as the convenor of the alliance, though it was 'unfortunate' that he had to quit the Union Cabinet.
