Bhat, Geelani put under house arrest

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Two prominent leaders of the separatist All Party Hurriyat Conference -- Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat and Jamat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani -- were put under house arrest on Friday morning by the state authorities.

The Hurriyat had asked the people to hold protest demonstrations after the Friday prayers against the recent bomb blast at Charar-e-Sharief and the Shangus mosque siege.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front vice-president Javed Ahmed Mir has also been arrested and security tightened in the Valley.
