The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into Friday's explosion and subsequent police firing at Charar-e-Sharief in which four women died and 50 others were wounded.
"The district magistrate, Budgam will hold the inquiry and submit the report to the government at the earliest," Minister of State for Home Mushtaq Ahmad Lone told rediff.com on Friday night.
"The magistrate probe the incident and also determine if there was excessive firing by the police after the explosion," he said.
Lone who visited the town had to face a hostile crowd shouting slogans. The protestors were demanding shifting of the local police officers at Charar-e-Sharief. They are blaming the police officials for the explosion and subsequent firing.
However, Jammu and Kashmir police chief Ashok Suri had denied the police's involvement in the incident.
He told a local news agency that the militants had targeted the local station house officer and his guards. The grenade, Suri said, missed the target and exploded near the devotees.
