Pant briefs PM on his visit to J&K

The Centre's interlocutor on Kashmir K C Pant on Tuesday met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and briefed him on his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, where he met a cross section of people and organisations.

During the two-hour long meeting, Pant apprised the prime minister of his visit to Srinagar, Leh, Kargil and Jammu, informed sources said in New Delhi.

The sources said Pant also conveyed the regional aspirations of the people of the state to the prime minister.

During his six-day long stay in J&K, which was his maiden visit after he was appointed by the government as the interlocutor, Pant met several organisations and individuals, including Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Shah, former chief minister G M Shah, Ladakh Buddhist associations besides holding parleys with Kashmiri migrant organisations.

The Hurriyat Conference, which was also invited for talks, did not meet Pant.
