Contradictions over slain dacoit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi's husband Umed Singh's links with Uma Kashyap, a political activist being questioned by the police, surfaced on Saturday with Singh denying knowing her and Phoolan's sister saying they were close friends.
While Umed Singh said he had no links with Kashyap and Sher Singh Rana alias Pankaj Singh, the prime accused in the case, Phoolan Devi's younger sister Munni Devi claimed he knew both of them very well.
Pankaj, who was arrested in Dehradun on Friday, is now in police custody.
"I do not know them (Uma Kashyap and Pankaj). Thousands of people used to come to see her (Phoolan Devi)," Singh said.
Meanwhile, F M Das, who claims to be close to Phoolan Devi's family, said Pankaj was not the real executor of the crime.
"Police is trying to save someone. Pankaj is also doing the same. He has named only one accomplice, whereas the driver of the autorickshaw, which was used by the assailants to escape, told the police that there were three of them," Das said.
