Intelligence lapses led to intrusion
from across the border: Gen Malik

Former chief of army staff Gen V P Malik, who led the Indian Army during the Kargil war, on Thursday admitted there were intelligence lapses, which resulted in the intrusion from across the border in 1999.

"I will accept that there were lapses in our intelligence network and in our surveillance. It was inadequate, otherwise this kind of intrusion would not have taken place," Malik said in an interview to Star News.

He said young officers and soldiers were primarily responsible for India's victory in Kargil.
