'Hue and cry raised by fellow Tamils helped in my release'

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam President M Karunanidhi said on Wednesday that his release is due to the efforts made by Tamilians all over the world.

"My release is due to the hue and cry raised by fellow Tamils all over the world," said Karunanidhi as he came out of the Madras central jail, where he had spent the last four days.

"I am too tired to deliver a lengthy speech," a haggard looking Karunanidhi told scores of DMK men, who had gathered in front of the prison on hearing his release.

Policemen had a tough time in controlling the surging crowd, which wanted to have a glimpse of Karunanidhi as he got inside a car.

Members of Karunanidhi's family, Union minister T R Baalu and a host of DMK leaders received Karunanidhi when he came out of his cell.
