Dara Singh's trial postponed for second time

BHUBANESWAR (AFP) - The trial of Dara Singh, chief suspect in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons in Orissa, has been deferred for a second time.

The judge on Tuesday postponed the trial of Hindu extremist Dara Singh until next month because of an ongoing lawyers' strike against the state government's decision to impose a professional tax.

Singh's trial should have begun on December 1, but was initially postponed following objections raised by the defence council.

Singh is accused of leading a mob that torched a car containing a sleeping Staines, 58, and his two sons - aged seven and 10 - in January 1999.
