Five children charred to death in Orissa

Five children were burnt to death inside a make-shift thatched room at Baunsadiha village in Mayurbhanj district, about 120 km from Baripada on Monday, police sources said on Wednesday.

The children - three boys and two girls - all in the age group of two to five years, were playing inside the make-shift room, locally known as kuma , in the backyard of a house under Thakurmunda police station, when the mishap occurred.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the sources said.

Adult members of the household, rushed in after hearing the screams of the children, but by then they were charred beyond recognition.

Four of the victims belonged to different families of the village, while the other had come from a neighbouring village to a relation's place, the sources said.
