3 cops killed in ambush in Sopore

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Militants ambushed a police vehicle in Sopore, in northern Baramulla district, on Monday afternoon, killing three policemen, including head constable Ghulam Rasool.

Police sources said militants opened indiscriminate fire from automatic weapons on a passing police vehicle, resulting in the on-the-spot death of a policeman and injuries to three others.

Two injured policemen died later.

The third policeman injured has been rushed to hospital and security reinforcements have been rushed to the spot.
