Power transmission tower

Suspected militants blew up a 220 kv transmission tower in a powerful IED blast at Chamal was, about 90 km from Jammu, Sunday night.

The tower, crumbled following the explosion, affecting power supply in the area, he said.

Five people including four foreign mercenaries, who were involved in Kotchatwal carnage on February 9, were killed since Sunday even as security forces foiled an infiltration bid, a defence spokesman said in Jammu on Monday.

Security forces retaliated when a group of militants opened fire in Rud nullah near Kotchatwal village in Rajouri district Sunday, the spokesman said.

In the encounter, four ultras were shot dead, he said adding the four were behind the Kotchatwal carnage where 15 members of Bakerwal community were killed.

Security forces foiled an infiltration bid by militants on Saturday who opened fire on a forward post in Rajouri-Nowshera sector. An army jawan was killed and another injured in the encounter, he said.
