Militant outfits condemn killing of Sikhs

Front-ranking militant outfits Hizbul Mujahideen, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and several political and religious organisations have strongly condemned the killing of six members of the minority Sikh community at Mehjoor Nagar in Srinagar on Saturday evening.

In a statement here, Hizbul Mujahideen operations chief Abdul Majid Dar and Divisional Commander Zafar Ahmad said it was the handiwork of those who are against the present freedom struggle.

''Those who have done it cannot be the friends of people of Kashmir,'' they said and added that it was a conspiracy to derail the hope generated after Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Gen Pervez Musharraf had telephonic talks.

Describing the killing as 'inhuman', JKLF leader Javed Ahmad Mir said those who have done it are worst enemies of humanity.

Former Union minister Prof Saifuddin Soz said the massacre was a crime against humanity and such heinous crimes must be condemned unequivocally. ''I am sure that people of all walks of life in Kashmir condemned such dastardly acts of barbarism.''

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah, Jamit-i-Islamia, J&K Peoples Democratic Party and several other organisations have also issued statements condemning the incident.
