Wickremesinghe said he telephoned his Norwegian counterpart Kjell Magne Bondevik officially extending an invitation to revive Oslo's efforts to help bring the rebel LTTE to the negotiating table.
"The response I got was very positive," Wickremesinghe said adding that a Norwegian delegation was likely to visit Sri Lanka in January.
The government was also awaiting a response from the International Committee of the Red Cross on a request to take messages between the government and the LTTE.
The LTTE and government forces are observing a bilateral truce since Christmas Eve. There have been no violations so far.
