70 taken ill in Orissa after eating contaminated food

About 70 persons in Kendrapara fell ill on Thursday after eating food mixed with a chemical powder used for polishing marble, mistaking it for common salt, according to official sources in Orissa.

A bag filled with the chemical was mistaken for salt and used in the food served at a temple, the sources said.

The victims threw up and showed signs of suffocation after eating.

Ten of them were admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara and the rest were let off after being administered first aid, they added.
