Another suspect arrested in Phoolan Devi murder

The Delhi police has arrested one more person in connection with the murder of Samajwadi Party MP Phoolan Devi, who was gunned down in front of her Ashoka Road residence on July 25.

"Raju, the brother of Sher Singh Rana, who is the prime suspect in the murder of Phoolan Devi, has been arrested. He was one of the conspirators," Joint Commissioner of Police K K Paul told Indo-Asian News Service on Saturday.

With the latest arrest, the number of men taken into custody has increased to 11

Earlier, Rana alias Pankaj was arrested from Dehradun in Uttaranchal on July 27 after he allegedly fired at Phoolan Devi while she was about to enter her bungalow.

His three associates, identified as Ravinder, Shekhar and Rajvir, were arrested from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on July 30. Soon after, police held three more -- Keshav Chauhan, a member of Samajwadi Party, advocate Praveen Mittal and gun dealer Amit Rathi.

Three more were then arrested. The police said they were expecting more arrests.
