Bajrang Dal plans special
task force for temple

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The Bajrang Dal in Orissa is recruiting 1.5 lakh youths to set up a special task force to support construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The force will also counter conversions and cow slaughter.

"The special force would take active part in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which will commence after Maha Shivaratri next year," said Bhuban Mohan Jena, state convenor of the Bajrang Dal.

An enrolment drive for the special force has been launched throughout the state, Jena added.

Members of the force will be given specialised training to fight against subversive activities in the country. "Training camps will be organised from the last week of May to the second week of June at Bhadrak and Berhampur," he said.

Sources in the Bajrang Dal told rediff.com that tribal youths are the main target of the enrollment drive.

In tribal dominated districts, the Bajrang Dal and other Sangh Parivar outfitshave become active in recent years to check conversions by Christian missionaries and to attract the tribals to join the Hinduvta forces.

This has resulted in increased violence against Christian minorities, including the killing of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons at Manoharpur village in Keonjhar district in January 1999, followed by killing of Catholic priest Arul Dos and the burning and demolition of churches in Phulbani district.
