Bomb hoax at Breach Candy

A bomb hoax at Breach Candy Hospital in South Bombay, where the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is recuperating, led to a frantic search of the entire area by the police on Wednesday, a police bulletin issued Thurday said.

It said police received an anonymous call on October 11 night saying a bomb had been planted at Breach Candy Hospital where the prime minister underwent left knee-joint replacement surgery on October 10.

The authorities carried out a frantic combing operation only to discover the call to be a hoax.

Police traced the call from a PCO at Kandivali in northwest Bombay and arrested one Ismail Kasim Sheikh.

Meanwhile, security in the hospital premises has been tightened, according to sources.
