SP shot dead by MCC ultras in Bihar

State director general of police K A Jacob told UNI in Patna that the encounter took place when Singh was returning after conducting a raid. The SP, who was shot in the temple by extremists, died on the spot.

Jacob said several rounds of firing took place during the encounter in which some extremists were also killed. However, the actual figure of the extremists killed during the encounter was not available. The extremists probably also triggered a landmine blast, he added.

The DGP said that the borders of Palamu and Lohardagga districts has been sealed and massive combing operations were launched to nab the extremists.

Senior officials are camping at the spot. The situation in the area was tense, but under control, the police said.

Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi expressed profound sorrow over the killing of Singh.

In a condolence message, Devi said that Singh showed extreme courage during the encounter with the extremists.

She said that the state government would recommend a Vir Chakra for him.

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav also expressed grief over the killing of Singh.
