Suspended Orissa MLA is not sorry

Suspended Orissa Congress legislator Harihar Karan today said he was not involved in any anti-party activity and that he was a disciplined member of the party.

Reacting to his suspension from the party, he said he was only speaking for a majority of party workers who were dissatisfied over the election of Ramakanta Misra as the Congress Legislature Party leader.

''If that is anti-party activity, then I have nothing to say,'' he said adding, his group enjoys the support of 15 of the 26 members of the party in the House and would continue to demand Mishra's removal.

Karan said they (he and other disgruntled elements) had been demanding a change in CLP leadership and the high command had agreed to consider their demand. ''But since nothing happened, we decided to boycott CLP meetings. Out of 26 Congress MLAs, only eleven attended the meeting convened recently by Mishra,'' he said.

Former chief minister Hemananda Biswal, however, said he does not know why Karan was suspended. ''We have already informed the high command that we will be attending the assembly session,'' he said.

Karan said he had nothing against the All India Congress Committee chief, Sonia Gandhi, or any other leader.
