E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today welcomed the announcement of ceasefire by pro-Pakistan militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and said the government was willing to talk to anybody within the framework of the Constitution.

This was stated by Vajpayee at the Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi, party spokesman Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

Meanwhile, the Congress also welcomed the announcement and expressed the hope that the government would utilise the opportunity to find an amicable solution to the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

"We welcome the unilateral ceasefire. We do hope the government will use this opportunity to find an amicable solution to the Jammu and Kashmir problem on the basis of the 1975 Indira-Abdullah accord and within the framework of the Constitution," party spokesperson Margaret Alva told reporters.
