Bombay's rain fury toll mounts to 98Bombay and other rain-affected parts of Maharashtra today limped back to normal, with the rain fury subsiding, even as the death toll mounted to 98 this morning, with the recovery of seven more bodies from the debris of Wednesday's landslide. The city and suburbs, which faced the brunt of the rain fury for two days, jostled back to activity as train services, the city's lifeline, were restored. At Ghatkopar, which witnessed a major landslide, rescue operations continued with a special team retrieving 65 bodies from the debris. Twenty people are undergoing treatment at various city hospitals. Some long distance trains, including the Pune-Shatabadi Express and 2619 Matsyagandha, were cancelled, while the Deccan-Guwahati Express was rescheduled to leave at 1210 hours (IST) instead of 0715 hours, railway sources said. Train services on the Bombay-Goa route continued to be suspended owing to inclement weather and minor landslides. While vehicular traffic on the Bombay-Ahmedabad highway continued to be affected, traffic on the Bombay-Poona and other major highways moved smoothly, traffic sources said. Nasik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Kolhapur had a brief respite from rains this morning after incessant rains for the last few days. The weather bureau has forecast moderate to heavy showers for the next 24 hours for Bombay. PTI
