Dara remanded to police custody

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Karanjia sub-divisional judicial magistrate has remanded Dara Singh, the prime accused in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Stewart Staines and his two sons in Keonjhar district of Orissa last year, to a three-day police remand.

SDJM P K Jena gave the order on a review petition filed by the Crime Branch of the state police.

The Crime Branch had filed a petition in the Orissa High Court on February 4 seeking the remand of Dara Singh for custodial interrogation after its plea for the same was rejected by the court of the SDJM, Karanjia.

While disposing of the petition, the high court asked the Crime Branch to file a fresh review petition before the SDJM, Karanjia seeking Dara's remand for custodial interrogation.

The review petition inter-alia stated that Dara was believed to be involved in several crimes and his interrogation in police custody was necessary to elicit more material evidence to file a supplementary charge-sheet.
