Deepa Mehta invited South to shoot Water

E-Mail this report to a friend

Beleaguered movie director Deepa Mehta has found an unexpected friend in the Bharatiya Yukthivadi Sangham, which invited her to come to the gracious land across the Vindhyas to shoot her controversial film, Water.

In the wake of the uproar over the shooting in the pilgrim town of Varanasi, Sangham president C I Oommen Monday extended a warm welcome to Mehta. He urged her to decide on her location -- either in Kerala, Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh.

He assured her every co-operation, saying that his organisation was ready to make all the necessary arrangements to facilitate a trouble-free shoot.

Remarking on the Sangh Parivar's stance on the issue, he said it reminded him of the attitude of the Catholic Church during the Dark Ages.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister L K Advani has said the dispute should be solved amicably.
