18 hurt in grenade attack in J&K

E-Mail this report to a friend

Eighteen people were injured in a powerful grenade explosion in Anantnag district Wednesday, even as elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir five militants, including two top Hizbul Mujahideen activists, and a village head were among eight people killed since Tuesday evening.

Militants lobbed a grenade at a security vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Bijbehara around noon but it missed the target and exploded on the road wounding 18 civilians, an official spokesman said.

Two top Hizb militants were killed a gun-battle with security forces in Kupwara district's Handwara area, he said.
