8 village vigilantes killed in Doda district

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

At least 8 Village Defence Committee members were killed in Kishtwar in Doda district.

They were killed in Kiar Dachan village in hilly Doda district last night.

The police said the heavily armed group of militants fired on the VDC members in the village and later escaped under the cover of darkness. Sources said police parties have been rushed to the village and it will take them at least 24 hours to reach the village.

Senior officials are also visiting the spot in the district.
