BJD's political panel dissolved

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a significant political development, Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik has dissolved the party's political affairs committee late last night.

Patnaik's decision, coming at a time when serious efforts are on for an electoral understanding with the Janata Dal in the state, has surprised many senior party leaders

Several BJD leaders said the decision was aimed at countering the anti-Naveen forces in the party.

Patnaik and party's PAC chairman and senior legislative assembly member Bijaya Mahapatra have been at loggerheads for the past few months.

Mahapatra's supporters had openly challenged Patnaik's decision in suspending and dismissing some party MLAs and members of Parliament ignoring the PAC.
