BJD leader calls for review of support to BJP

Disillusioned with the Centre's "apathetic" attitude towards Orissa, senior Biju Janata Dal leader Ram Krushna Patnaik has appealed to party MPs and MLAs to convene an executive body meeting to review the party's participation in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

In a letter to the party MPs and MLAs, Patnaik said it was high time for the BJD to resort to pressure tactics as adopted by other allies of the government, to fulfill the aspirations and the demands of the people of the state.

Expressing displeasure over the "negligence" meted out to the state by the BJP government, the BJD leader said, "We have failed to achieve even the minimum demands and the people have started believing that our MPs and MLAs have failed to muster sufficient strength to pressurise the central government to achieve even the genuine demands."

Under this perspective, the party must review its participation and explore the possibility of supporting the government from outside, Patnaik remarked.
