Pak is not trustworthy: Fernandes

E-Mail this report to a friend

Defence Minister George Fernandes has reiterated that the military action in the Kargil sector would continue till the last intruder was thrown out of Indian soil.

The recapture of the Taloling post after 15-20 days' of fighting 'is heroic', he said at a function at Rajinder Pura, 35 kilometres from Srinagar. The function was held in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of Brigadier Rajinder Singh, popularly known as the 'Saviour of Kashmir' for his efforts in tackling the Pakistani tribal raid of October 1947.

Pakistan dared the Kargil intrusion ''underestimating our will to react'' and out of frustration on witnessing fast-returning normalcy in Kashmir, he said.

Pointing out the contradictions in the Pakistani establishment and between their 'sayings and doings', he said, ''They are not trustworthy.''

He appreciated the enthusiasm of the ex-servicemen who had expressed the desire to fight in the Kargil sector, but assured that the armed forces were 'sufficiently capable' of defending the country's borders.
