Vajpayee to visit Kargil on Sunday

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will visit the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir on June 13, Defence Minister George Fernandes announced today.

Talking to reporters, Fernandes said the prime minister's tour had been cleared by the defence ministry.

Details of the tour are being worked out. It has not yet been decided whether Fernandes will accompany Vajpayee.

During the tour, the prime minister will also visit the base hospital at Srinagar.

The tour is expected to boost the morale of the defence forces engaged in flushing out the Pakistani intruders. It will also give the prime minister first-hand information about the situation at the border.
