Security tightened in TN districts

As many as 181 Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam workers have been taken into preventive custody in the southern districts in the wake of the seizure of explosives in the state in the last three days.

The police said today that Ramanathapauram district accounted for the highest number of arrests. All the arrested were remanded to judicial custody.

Security had been stepped up in all places of worship. Vehicles coming into Madurai city were subjected to thorough checks.

Besides, all trains leaving and arriving in the city were checked by the railway police force with the help of sniffer dogs.

Meanwhile, the city police is also planning to conduct door-to-door searches in Madurai.
