List of Pak Army regulars dead include brigadier

While the Pakistani army continues to deny that its forces were actively involved in the Kargil conflict, reliable defence sources have released a list of names of Pakistani officers killed in action exclusively to rediff.com

The list, which names 30 officers, includes a brigadier, one colonel, 11 majors, 12 captains, one lieutenant and four other ranks. The sources said that the names were being given to rediff.com so that the families of those killed may get the information via the Internet since the Pakistani army refuses to acknowledge its dead soldiers and give them a decent burial with full military honours.

The Indian army places the Pakistani soldiers' death toll at 696 killed, including 41 officers. Given below are the names available with the Indian army (not complete) and released to rediff.com

The Indian army said that with the Pakistan government refusing to acknowledge the bravery of its soldiers in carrying out difficult orders under the most trying conditions, resentment among the lower ranked officers and soldiers in the army is running high against their senior officers and the government.

"For any soldier, dying in a battle is an honour, his very raison d'etre. And by not collecting the dead bodies and sending them back to the families to give them a proper burial with full military honours -- this action of Islamabad only hurts them and destroys their morale," said an army officer.

He added that while the Indian army respected the Pakistani soldier for his courage, the Pakistani officer had often been found lacking in leadership qualities. "Not accepting the bodies only proves that the top Pakistani officers are a politicised bunch who don't care for their soldiers," he said.
