Three killed in shelling in Jammu

Three persons, including a woman, were killed and several injured in Pak shelling in Pallanwalla and Nowshera sectors of Jammu region since last night.

Heavy firing and shelling was continuing from across the border targeting Indian positions and civilian areas in Rajouri, Poonch and Jammu districts.

An official spokesman said in Jammu that a woman identified as Jeetu Devi was killed on the spot when Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing and mortor shelling at Lam Bhawani border area in Nowshera sector last night.

He said Indian troops also retaliated but it could not be immediately known whether the enemy suffered any casualities.

He said due to continuing shelling and firing from across the border in Nowshera sector at least 18 families migrated to safer places.

According to official sources, Pakistani troops began heavy mortar shelling in Pallanwala area last night at about 2100 IST targeting several Indian positions and villages.

At least a dozen people were injured and admitted to the Government Medical College, Jammu where two of them, Raghubir Singh and Angrez Singh, later succumbed to injuries.

The condition of one of the injured, Swarn Singh, was stated to be critical.
