Vajpayee to fast for harmony on Jan 30

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will observe a fast on January 30, the fiftieth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, to promote 'sarva panth samabhav' (communal harmony).

Vajpayee has appealed to the people to join him in observing the token fast.

A series of special welfare programmes and activities have been planned all over the country by the 'National Committee for the Observance of the 50th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Father of the Nation' to focus on the need to spread the message of Gandhiji's life and teachings.
