Man short of dowry to fast before deputy collector's office

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bibhuti Mishra in Bhubaneswar

A man married 21 years ago has decided to stage a fast-unto-death before the Kuchinda deputy collector's office. He is protesting against his in-laws going back on their promise to pay him for marrying a deaf-and-dumb girl.

This unnamed man from Hatapali village in Kuchinda has already informed the deputy collector of his plan.

He has alleged that although his in-laws promised to adequately compensate him for marrying the girl, they went back on the promise after the wedding.

His father-in-law died a few years after the marriage and everybody in that family ignored the son-in-law's demands. So after two decades of futile pleading, the man decided to make his complaint public. Now we just have to see how the deputy collector reacts.
