Cold wave kills 13 in Bihar

Thirteen people died Monday in the cold wave sweeping Barh, taking the toll in this division of Bihar to 24 this winter.

Official sources said three people each died in Mokameh and Barh.

In Srinagar and adjoining areas, normal life was hit due to snowfall since early Tuesday. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which witnessed snowfall between Qazigund to Banihal, was, however, open to traffic.

Reports of heavy snowfall were also received from Charar-e-Sharief. Severe snowing was also seen in the Ladakh region, including Drass, Kargil, Zojila Pass, Kharbu, Matayan and Mulbekh.

Cold wave conditions also prevailed in parts of Orissa, plains of Uttar Pradesh, south Madhya Pradesh, north Gujarat region, north central Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka, and were below normal in Assam, Sikkim, north Madhya Pradesh, Rayalaseema and in parts of Tamil Nadu.

They were appreciably above normal in parts of Punjab and coastal Andhra Pradesh, and were above normal in parts of northwest Rajasthan.

They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh from where the data were sparse.

Rain or thundershowers occurred at isolated places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

Rain or snow is likely at a few places in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and at isolated places in the hills of west Uttar Pradesh.

Rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryana, Punjab and north Rajasthan.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country.
