Boy sets himself ablaze hoping superhero will save him

E-Mail this report to a friend

A boy set fire to himself, expecting the hero of the television serial, Shaktiman, to come to his rescue.

Nine-year old Dinesh Prabhakar Chowdhary of Patne village in Malegaon taluka in Nashik district is a fan of the serial's eponymous hero to the extent of imagining the hero spoke to him.

The boy poured kerosene over himself and set himself ablaze, expecting his hero would save him. Dinesh cried called for help and ran out of the house where the neighbours poured water on him. He was rushed to a private hospital at Malegaon with 40 per cent burns.

This is not the first time a child enamoured of Shaktiman has done itself harm. The serial is already facing other cases in court.
